Here’s how India’s T20 World Cup set-up can look like.
The Indian cricket team has established itself as a force to reckon with in the T20I format. The Men in Blue have dominated the other teams at home as well as in foreign conditions. Talking about India’s performance this year, the team won three T20I series, one at home and two on overseas pitches.
Virat Kohli’s men kicked off the year with a 2-0 series win versus Sri Lanka. Next, they visited New Zealand and whitewashed the hosts 5-0 in a historic T20I series triumph. India ended the year with a 2-1 T20I series win over Australia. Thus, the Indian side has been in great touch.
A majority of the cricket universe expects the Indian cricket team to perform well at the forthcoming T20 World Cup at home. The last time India hosted a T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue lost to West Indies in the semifinals. However, this time, India has the lineup to go all the way and lift the trophy.
India’s predicted playing XI for ICC T20 World Cup 2021
1. Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma has been one of the best opening batsmen globally in the white-ball cricket. The right-handed batsman missed the recently-concluded T20I series against Australia owing to an injury issue. However, he was in fantastic touch during the IPL season in the United Arab Emirates.
Speaking of numbers in T20I cricket, Rohit Sharma has aggregated 2,773 runs in 100 T20I innings. He is only behind skipper Virat Kohli in terms of batsmen with the most runs in T20 international cricket. Besides, Rohit has scored four centuries and 21 fifties in this format.
A few fans have even opined that the team management should assign Rohit Sharma captaincy ahead of the T20 World Cup. While Virat Kohli is unlikely to lose his captaincy, Rohit would surely feature in the team as a specialist batsman. Also, he will support Virat in the leadership group.
