India vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I encounter will be held at HPCA Stadium on 26th Feb.
India will march into the beautiful stadium of Dharamshala with their eyes set on securing the series. Rohit and the management have to make some big decisions before the 2nd T20I. With the variety of talent which lies at their disposal selecting a balanced side becomes a difficult task to pull off. Even with the absence of Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant it is hard to point out gaps and flaws in the playing eleven.
India’s Dilemma
It won’t be a surprise to see India lining up with the same squad in the second T20I. But experimenting with the line-up at the same time does seem to be a viable option. After an early exit in the last T20I world cup, the Indian team was forced to have a reality check. Experimenting with the squad and bringing out the best line-up is the task that lies ahead of India. With Ruturaj Gaikwad unable to reach back to his fitness Rohit may incline towards the duo of young batsmen Samson and Kishan to open and the skipper moving down at third position.
Other than their opening pair India also has to figure out the pair of opening bowlers. India is still in their hunt to figure out another bowler who can gel with Jasprit Bumrah. Bhuvneshwar Kumar looks like the ideal partner however, Harshal Patel and Deepak Chahar remain in contention. With the current bowling line-up Md. Siraj is still struggling to make his way in the playing eleven. The upcoming IPL and England series is going to be a crucial test. A strong performance is likely to seal their place in the squad for the T20I World Cup 2022.
Sri Lanka’s Woes
For Sri Lanka, the absence of key players and inconsistency is a roadblock in their progress. Along with this, the lack of experienced players hampers their ability to understand and react to the situation. In both departments, Sri Lanka lacks uniformity and stability. Except for Hasaranga Sri Lankan players struggle to perform on a constant basis.
