Devon Conway Breaking Records on Test Debut

Devon Conway breaks records on his test debut versus England in the iconic Lords Cricket stadium. Conway has broken the record of scoring the highest individual score by any visiting batsman by crossing past Sourav Ganguly’s 131 in 1996. He also broke a 125-year-old record of Ranjitsinhji’s scoring the highest score on debut in England of 154 in 1896.

Devon Conway opened the batting for New Zealand he did not face any balls in the first three-four overs. It was the first time he would be facing the legendary pair of James Anderson and Stuart Broad. He was happy to see them from the non-striker end. Conway started his test career with confidence and scored 200 runs before he was run-out. He batted throughout the New Zealand innings scoring more than half of New Zealand’s total of 378.

Conway brought confidence into the innings from his recent performance on the international stage. He is currently in the top 3 batsmen in the T20 international rankings. Conway also was the first opening batsman after Graeme Smith in 2003 to score a Double Hundred at Lords. He needed one innings to surpass Andrew Strauss to score most runs by a debutant at Lords. Andrew Strauss scored 195 in two innings way back in 2004. Conway is the seventh batsman to cross the 200 figure mark on debut.
