Brisbane Heat’s Lewis Gregory has become the talk of the town for a reason he would have definitely not liked.
Brisbane Heat’s Lewis Gregory has become the talk of the town for a reason he would have definitely not liked. The English all-rounder is the butt of all jokes on social media after delivering one of the most terrible deliveries of the year during the game between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes in the ongoing Big Bash League.
The bizarre incident took place during the 17th over of the Hurricanes innings when Gregory was bowling to Tim David. On the previous delivery, he was hit for a six and in order to ensure that the last ball of the over does not get the same treatment, the right-arm pacer tried something different. But the experiment ended in a disastrous manner.
Gregory was trying to bowl an off-cutter outside the off-stump but failed completely. The ball slipped out of his hands at the time of release and landed well outside the pitch, inviting laughter from the commentators. Gregory lost his control too and was seen sitting in the middle of the pitch with a sheepish smile on his face.
That was not the end to his miseries. The delivery was called a no-ball and the resulting free hit was shot for a six by David. That six meant Gregory ended the over by conceding 20 runs. That costly mistake eventually came to haunt Gregory as well as Brisbane Heat as they lost the match by just 1 run.
Here is a clip of the incident:
Fine debut for Lewis Gregory but forgettable outing for Heat so far
Lewis Gregory made his debut in the BBL through the ongoing season. He made his debut against Hobart Hurricanes on December 27 and it was a debut to remember as he finished his four overs with 3 for 22. His spell helped Heat notch their first win of the competition over the high-flying Hobart Hurricanes.
Prior to that win, Heat had lost three games in a row. And it did not take them long to return to losing ways as they lost the reverse fixture against the Hurricanes on December 30. Gregory,
who has played 8 T20Is for England so far,
failed to make a mark in the game and went wicketless while conceding 38 runs. Heat are currently lying at the sixth spot with 1 win from five games.
