Ashes 2021: Alex Carey is set to be the keeper for Australia in the Ashes opener.

Australian wicketkeeper, Alex Carey is all set to make his debut for Australia in the Test match arena after establishing himself in the white ball circuit. Carey is getting the opportunity because Tim Paine decided to take a break from all forms of a cricket amid the sexting scandal, he was involved in.

Alex Carey has a chance to establish himself as Tim Paine’s long-term successor as the test wicketkeeper. He is selected over Josh Inglis, who was making a very strong case for himself.

“I am incredibly humbled by this opportunity,”It’s an exciting build-up for what is a huge series ahead. My focus is on preparing and playing my part in helping Australia secure the Ashes. “This is also for my dad who has been my coach, mentor and mate, my mum, my wife Eloise, kids Louis and Clementine, my brother and sister and all of those who have supported me. I will be doing my absolute best to make them and our country proud.”

Carey’s form has been decent in recent times with just 153 runs under his belt in 8 innings of Shiefiled Shield games. However, he scored a fantastic 100 in Marsh Cup before the Brisbane game.

“I feel like I’m hitting the ball well and although the runs didn’t come as I would have liked in the first part of the Sheffield Shield season I think consistently over the last couple of years I’ve been pretty solid,” he told RSN radio.

Carey about his form

“Alex has been a regular member of the national side in white-ball cricket, particularly in the one-day game. He is an excellent cricketer and a fine individual who will bring many great strengths to the team. He will be a very deserved holder of baggy green cap number 461.”

National selector George Bailey said

Due to the terrible weather in Brisbane, Australia’s planned three-day intrasquad competition has been cancelled and will be replaced by indoor training and possibly some centre-wicket practises.
