ASHES 2021-22 | 1st TEST | LIVE UPDATES | Australia vs England | Day 2

The Ashes is starting from 8th December at the Gabba, Brisbane. Australia has announced its Playing XI and England has announced its Playing XII. Here are all the details about the test match.

Australia is all set to have the biggest summers of all time with The Ashes coming back after the 2019 England edition, where Australia won the Ashes by 2-1 under Tim Paine’s captaincy. England has not won any match in Brisbane since the 1986-87 tour of Australia. Pat Cummins has been named as Australia’s Test Captain after Tim Paine resigned from the post, last week. Steve Smith is named as his deputy.

England side will be missing one of the key bowlers, James Anderson who has been rested for the 1st Test and England has not announced its playing XI as of yet and the question revolves around their team selection. Whereas, Australia showed courage and announced their playing XI, 3 days prior to the game starting. Pat Cummins will be leading the side after Tim Paine stepped down from the Captaincy role.

Pat Cummins will be the first bowler in 65 years to lead Australia after captain Australia’s men’s Test side since Ray Lindwall served the role in one match in 1956. Medium-pace all-rounders Monty Noble and Jack Ryder captained the side in the early 1900s.


Due to the terrible weather in Brisbane, Australia’s planned three-day intrasquad competition has been cancelled and will be replaced by indoor training and possibly some centre-wicket practises.

Australian wicketkeeper, Alex Carey is all set to make his debut for Australia in the Test match arena after establishing himself in the white ball circuit. Carey is getting the opportunity because Tim Paine decided to take a break from all forms of a cricket amid the sexting scandal, he was involved in.

Carey’s form has been decent in recent times with just 153 runs under his belt in 8 innings of Shiefiled Shield games. However, he scored a fantastic 100 in Marsh Cup before the Brisbane game.

Amid the sexting scandal, Tim Paine who resigned from captaincy the previous week now has taken an indefinite break from all forms of cricket.

Paine played a Sheffield shield game this week and was named in the One-Day Marsh Cup; He was also named in the tentative list of 15-member-squad for the first two tests. He had to travel to Brisbane to join the Australian Team for preparation for the first test.

ECB announced their full-strength squad for THE ASHES, a month ago. England squad misses out on some big names like Jofra Archer and Sam Curran. Moreover, their biggest addition in the squad was that of Ben Stokes, who is coming after a mental-health break of four and a half months.
