Southampton Cricket Stadium
The decided venue for the finals of the World Test Championship to be played between India and New Zealand is Southampton Cricket Stadium. The Ageas Bowl is the home ground of Hampshire County Cricket Club. England Cricket Board (ECB) had a favorite for the Finals, Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Sources say ECB is looking at the prepared conditions of The Ageas Bowl for the finals.
The finals are set to play from June 18 to June 22, The Southampton Cricket boss Rod Bransgrove gave out very little on being approached for the onset of the World Test Championship Finals. The MCC’s (Melbourne Cricket Club) said “ There has been no definitive decision regarding the venue being finalized for the finals. Once finalized,It will be announced by ICC in due time”
The latest high profile to comment on the finals potentially taking place in the Rose Bowl Stadium is the former Indian Captain and Current BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), Sourav Ganguly, said “I’m looking forward to attending the World Test Championship Final between India and New Zealand in Southampton.”
The Rose Bowl Stadium has hosted only six test matches till date, the finals would be the seventh. Out of six, only three had a result, two in favour of England where India was defeated and the other one was won by West Indies in July, 2020.
India is hoping to make amends at the venue, with the finals to be played against New Zealand. In the case of New Zealand, the finals would be their first time at the Rose Bowl Stadium.
The Rose Bowl, Southampton is also known as The Ageas Stadium was established in 2001. The seating capacity of 6,500 and 20,000 temporary seating.
