India’s women’s cricket team captain, Mithali Raj becomes the first person ever to cross 20,000 runs in women’s international cricket. India’s captain reached this milestone with her 5th consecutive half-century vs Australia in their first ODI.
India vs Australia, 1st ODI overview
India vs Australia series started today, it was in the first innings of this ODI in which Mithali scored 61 runs and took the team total to 225/8. Scoring her 50 is when she crossed the 20,000 run mark.
The Indian captain was already the highest ever scorer in women’s cricket, a feat she achieved earlier this year vs England.
Her 61 off 103 balls was her 59th international half-century, other contributions in the game were made from debutants Yastika Bhatia (35 off 51) and Richa Ghosh (32 not out off 29).
Unfortunately, India has lost the first ODI, as Australia made the chase look easy, at 227/1 in just 41 overs. India’s bowling lineup wasn’t able to make their Captain’s record in a winning cause.
