Is PSL (Pakistan Super League) Banned in India?
History of Pakistan Super League
Pakistan super league (PSL) is a cricket tournament that takes place from February to March annually. It is played in the T-20 format in which 6 teams represent the 6 cities of Pakistan. PSL’s was founded on 9th September and officially launched on 4th of February 2016. The official launching of PSL took place in the United Arab Emirates due to security reasons.
Initially, 5 PSL teams played for two seasons. Now an additional team (Multan Sultans) has been added making it 6 teams that feature in PSL. The Pakistan cricket authorities don’t follow the auction method of buying players as done in India. They follow the draft method of hiring players as done by many American sports league companies.
Pakistan Super League Broadcasting:
All events of the PSL were aired and telecasted all over including India when it started in 2016. Things were going smooth until the Pulwama attack occurred on 14th February 2019. A suicide bomb attack shook the convoy of CRPF personnel on their way to Jammu- Srinagar highway. Things turned sour among the two neighbouring countries and retaliatory measures were taken.
India banned the live telecast of PSL Season 4 aired by D sports which refused to broadcast further sports events hosted by Pakistan. Moreover, IMG Reliance also backed out of telecasting any PSL events mid-tournament citing solidarity with the Indian soldiers.
