Reliving Kolkata Knight Riders first IPL Title

9 years ago, the stage was all set in Chennai to host the finals of the Indian Premier League. The Kolkata Knight Riders Faced the mighty Chennai Super Kings.

Chennai had been the champions in the previous two editions and were also the favorites to win the finals. On the other side was a team qualifying for the first time. The stage was set for a blockbuster final. Therefore, Chennai playing in front of their home crowd added advantage for the men in yellow. Kolkata had a huge blow that their lead bowler in the line-up Lakshmipathy Balaji was injured and would not be able to play in the finals.

Chennai won the toss and elected to bat first in front of their home crowd. They started their innings with positive intent and took the charge against the Knight Riders bowlers. Chennai lost their first wicket in the 10th over. In came Suresh Riana who was in his prime. He took the full charge against the bowlers. Chennai ended at 190/3 at the end of 20 overs. They set a target of 191 for the Knights to chase.

Opening the batting for Kolkata were Gautam Gambhir and Manvinder Bisla. Bisla was playing replacing Brendon Mccullum which was a shock for everyone as Mccullum was playing beautifully in the previous matches. This change was a forced changed as only 4 foreigners are allowed to play in the playing 11. Brett Lee replaced injured Balaji. Hence, Mccullum had to make way for Bisla.

Kolkata lost their Captain in the first over. The start they did not want while chasing a massive target of 191. But Bisla and Kallis stuck together in the middle and try to take the game as far as possible. Bisla took charge against all bowlers made his highest IPL score of 89 before getting out. Kallis was majorly anchoring the innings while his partner was taking a full toll on bowlers. Knight Riders lost wickets towards the end but kept their nerves. Manoj Tiwary finished the match with a boundary in the fourth ball of the last over.

There were tears of joy in the dressing room and celebrations in the owner’s box. The Knights showed courage and defeated the defending champions in their backyard and lifted the prestigious IPL Trophy.

CSK VS MI Post Match Presentation |Match 27| VIVO IPL 2021|

Check out the post presentation from today’s amazing match between CSK and MI. Kieron Pollard won many hearts and took Mumbai Indians to another height.

START OFF:

Here comes the post match presentation from the played off game. The Chennai Super Kings clashed with the Mumbai Indians in the 27th match of the Indian Premier League 2021, today at Feroz Shah Kotla. The city of dreams won the toss and elected to bowl first which eventually turned fruitful for them. CSK stagnated a target of 219 for the opposition to which the opponent team reacted very cautiously.

Chasing the total, Mumbai got off to a flying start as the openers added 50-plus in the Powerplay. However, Mumbai lost Rohit, Suryakumar and de Kock in 3 successive overs and it looked like the chase will get derailed. However, Pollard walked in and took the attack to the opposition. With Krunal, he added 89 off just 41 balls and kept Mumbai in the chase. He lost Hardik too. But he continued. He was there and he was determined. And he did it for his side. Like he has done so many times. Sensational knock to help Mumbai get over the line on the last ball of the match.

BOWLERS SIDE:

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

It was a tough start for Chennai bowlers as the Mumbai openers were off to a flying start. However, Shardul got them the breakthrough and then they got two more in the next two overs. After that, came the Pollard mayhem. Every bowler was taken apart by the big man. However, even then, the target was a massive one. Curran bowled a superb 17th over where he gave just 2 runs and took a wicket. However, Shardul was spanked for 17 in the 18th. Curran went for 14 in the penultimate over before taking two wickets in the over. Ngidi had to defend 16 in the final over. But he couldn’t.

BOWLERS SIDE:

MUMBAI INDIANS

Earlier in the game, on the back of some brilliant knocks from Moeen, Faf and Rayudu, Chennai posted a mammoth score on the board. First, it was Moeen and Faf who set the tone. Chennai lost the plot for a moment but Rayudu played an unbelievable knock to provide a brilliant finish. However, that target too was breached by strong Mumbai batting.

Mumbai bowlers had a terrible day at the office. Apart from Pollard and Chahar, all the bowlers used were smashed all over the park. Pollard got 2 in his 2 overs but Mumbai failed to finish things off well with the likes of Boult, Bumrah and Dhawal taken to the cleaners. Bumrah gave away 56 in his 4 overs, the highest in his Indian T20 League career. However, their batters, led by Pollard, scaled down the mountain.

SKIPPER SIDE: CSK VS MI| VIVO IPL 2021|

MS Dhoni, the Chennai skipper, mentions that they knew it is going to be a close game unless Mumbai loses a few quick wickets. Further he feels he doesn’t want to be tough on the bowlers and says if they had taken the catches, things would’ve got better for them. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai skipper, broached that he has never seen a chase like this and terms the innings as one of the best by Pollard.

MAN OF THE MATCH | KIERON POLLARD | BIG MAN FOR THE GAME

An amazing spirit Kieron Pollard, for his splendid performance has been declared as the MAN OF THE MATCH. The young lad scored a valuable 87* runs in an unbelievable 34 deliveries. About his bowling, he says that he wanted to slip in a couple of overs and he is happy to get two wickets.

Conclusion:

Winning and defeating, this has taken us to an end of an amazing game in the Indian Premier League 2021. If there was one team that could’ve chased this total, it was Mumbai and if there was ever a batter who could have helped the team, it had to be Pollard. Wow. The stuff of champions from Pollard. And Mumbai has stopped the Chennai juggernaut here.

CSK vs MI – Match No 26, IPL 2021 Post Match Presentation and Summary

CSK vs MI Post Match Presentation. Mumbai India Won the match by 4 wickets. Pollard finishes it off for MI in a blockbuster finish!

Kulkarni leaps for joy and roars. Pollard looks skyward – more subdued celebrations from the T20 stalwart. What a vintage finish from one of the greatest T20 players in the world. He reeled off a 17-ball half-century, dripping with power, and proceeded to an unbeaten 87 off 34 balls to help Mumbai mow down a target of 219, off the very last ball. Hardik sounds out a big warning for the other sides: “We’ve arrived at the right time in the tournament

MS Dhoni during CSK vs MI Post Match Presentation:

I think it was a brilliant wicket and I feel the difference between the two sides was the execution – how off we were. Without being too tough for the bowlers, catches do help. I felt we dropped catches at the crucial point. It doesn’t hurt much when you’re on the top of the table. If you look at how it really went, we were very off-target and against good batters who hit hard, it’s important to execute the plans. Even if you don’t get hit for one or two sixes, in the 20th over that can win you the game. It hurts but the spirits will be up. When you’re under the pump, you learn more. Irrespective of where we are on the points table, we look at one game at a time. Ultimately, if you do that, the points table will take care of itself.

MS Dhoni

Hardik Pandya on Pollard’s Inning during CSK vs MI Post Match Presentation:

After winning this kind of game, you’ve got to be pumped for the rest of the night. When he does something like this, you are genuinely speechless. He has done it again and again – it’s inspirational to watch him do something this amazing. I’d love to finish the game, but for me, I said after 210 the game can’t get better than this. You got out-swing. We’ve arrived at the right time of the tournament. This momentum will help us do wonders. Special mention to Polly! I’m proud of him.

Hardik Pandya

Pollard is the Player of the Match:

Player of the Match For CSK vs MI on his brilliant Performance
Player of the Match For CSK vs MI on his brilliant PerformancePollard (but who else?) is the Player of the Match:

First of all, I want to thank the almighty for watching over me and giving me the strength. So, yeah, started to bowl [laughs]. Obviously being a small ground, we thought it was the best time for the seamer to bowl. They have four overs of spin on a small ground and I looked to hit some sixes against spin. I had to maximise that over from Jadeja. That would always keep us in the game. Each and every time as an individual you have to evolve. Guys bowl wide and a lot of practice goes into it. I can’t say I’m 360, but I’m maximising it [hitting through the off side]. I was fortunate Faf gave me the chance. Good wicket, but the bowlers didn’t do well for us. It was about time the batting stood out. Two wins in the last two games hopefully gives us the momentum into the back end of the tournament.

Pollard During the Presentation

Rohit Sharma After Winning the First IPL Chase For MI (above 200 Runs):

Probably one of the best T20 games that I’ve been part of. One of the best innings also you can say from Polly. I know it’s always tough for the bowlers on a good pitch and smaller ground. We wanted to stay positive once we finished [bowling our] 20 overs. We got a good start and saw what happened. I mean we just had a brief chat [at the innings break] and said it was a good pitch. We had shot-makers in our batting line-up and we just wanted to take the game in the end. Brilliant partnership at the top and Krunal-Polly partnership was also there. We backed Krunal [at No.4] and he’s coming off good form in domestic cricket. A left-hander always makes a difference even though they [CSK] have an offspinner. It suits our style of play and yes the bowlers will be under pressure, but that’s where you back the bowlers. There will be games where the bowlers will go for runs, but it’s important to back your core group of bowlers.

SRH VS CSK Post Match Presentation | SRH VS CSK IPL 2021 | CSK Moves 1 into the table

SRH VS CSK Post Match Summary as CSK won the match by 7 wickets.

CSK won by 7 Wickets
CSK won by 7 Wickets

SRH VS CSK Post Match Summary:-

The Sunrisers Hyderabad clashed with the Chennai Super Kings today in the 23rd match of the Indian Premier League 2021, today at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. Sunrisers wo the toss and decided to go for batting in their first place and set a target for the southern team. The former team stagnated a target for 172 and the latter managed to chase the score in an extra ordinary manner. The latter won the match by 7 wickets with 9 deliveries still in hand.

Chennai had a dream start as Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched up a century stand in no time. They both were looking to set the game but Gaikwad fell to Rashid. Moeen Ali came out and played a few big strokes but soon perished to Rashid and du Plessis joined him back in the hunt on the very next ball. But in the end, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja stitched up a 25-run stand to get them over the line.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Innings Summary:

Hyderabad came on to bowl when the pitch had eased out a bit. They needed early wickets but that did not happen. Sandeep Sharma bowled well at the start but didn’t pick up the early wickets. Khaleel, Suchith and Kaul were quite expensive. Rashid took 3 big wickets but the damage had already done by the Chennai batters. The target wasn’t the biggest and they had a tough time defending it.

Earlier in the evening, Warner and Pandey struggled against a motivated Chennai bowling lineup. The bowlers bowled tight lines and did not give many free runs. But a late blitz by Williamson and Jadhav got them to a respectable total. In the end, the total was not adequate enough for this pitch. Faf du Plessis says that being the highest scorer so far feels good but adds winning is important. He further tells his partnership with Ruturaj is going well and tells that makes their side’s batting more fearful.

David Warner shares his view on team performance :

Hyderabad skipper, David Warner, takes responsibility as he says he batted slow and takes full responsibility for the batting. He appreciates Manish Pandey and Kane Williamson for the way they batted. Warner says he hit 15 good shots to the fielders and says those are the things that make or break an innings.

MS Dhoni on CSK Performance in SRH VS CSK Post Match Presentation:-

Chennai skipper, MS Dhoni says that the batting performance was superb and it was a good wicket and it was coming on nicely but bring up that it does not mean bowling was poor.

For his wonderful performance in the match today, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been declared as the MAN OF THE MATCH. He broaches that it means a lot but he is disappointed that he couldn’t finish it off. The young man scored a valuable 75 runs in just 44 deliveries.

This takes us to an amazing game end, a thumping win for Chennai. They win their 5th match in a row. On the other hand, Hyderabad is in deep trouble now. Chennai have romped their way to the top of the table. Hyderabad’s struggle continues as they stay foot at the table and succumb to another loss.

SRH vs CSK Post Match Summary. Sunrisers win the toss and choose to bat.

CSK secure their fifth successive victory and move back to the top of the points table. SRH, however, remain at the foot of the table with just a solitary win in six matches. Jadhav and Raina exchange hugs and smiles. At one point, it looked like Gaikwad and Faf would mow the target down with all ten wickets to spare. Such a dominant victory for Dhoni’s men

SRH vs CSK Playing XI:

Sunrisers Hyderabad: David Warner (capt), Jonny Bairstow (wk), Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar, Rashid Khan, J Suchith, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul

Chennai Super Kings: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (capt&wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur, Lungi Ngidi, Deepak Chahar

Faf du Plessis is now Orange Cap Holder:

Faf du Plessis played a very responsible inning for CSK
Faf du Plessis played a very responsible inning for CSK

It feels good, but obviously winning is just as nice. My partnership with Rutu is very productive and positive signs for us. We try to make sure that my basics are good. The last season went well for me personally. I made sure that I keep doing well. Faf think around 190 would have been a good score. It was a nice wicket, slowed down as thw ball got older, but overall a very good cricket wicket. I think we have a very good balance and the batting depth is very good. Even the depth in the bench – Robbie Uthappa and the guys. I think the biggest change for me is we have a bit more depth and balance in the squad. I’ve been disappointed that I haven’t been taking many catches. Jaddu has been stealing the show.

Faf du Plessis

David Warner on his side loss in SRH vs CSK POST Match Summary:

I take full responsibility for the way I batted. I batted slow and hit the fielders. The way Manish batted was exceptional. Kane and Kedhar got us to a respectable total, but at the end of the day I take full responsibility. Probably 15 good shots to fielders and they are the ones that make or break the innings. At the end of the day, I took too many balls. We fought well to the end, but the two [CSK] openers batted well. I’m not too sure. He was going to bat 4 and at the end of the day, we soaked up too many balls. At the end of the day, he bats at 4 and that’s his job. I think we have a day game here as well. 170 is par during the night, but we need to be positive. We’re a bunch of fighters. The guys will be hurt by this but we will be up and about.

David Warner

Gaikwad, Player of the Match SRH vs CSK:

Obviously, it means a lot, but a little bit disappointed I couldn’t finish it. I’d loved to be not out. I think the wicket was a little bit two-paced: some were skidding and some were stopping. It was about hitting the gaps. One or two bowlers had an off day and I had to keep going. Fortunately, it came off today. I want to keep performing every match and be consistent.

Gaikwad on his Performance

MS Dhoni on CSK Team Performance in winning the match:

The batting performance was superb, but that doesn’t mean the bowling was not good. It was a surprisingly good Delhi wicket, there was no dew. Brilliant opening partnership. I think addressing the problem [what’s been different for CSK this year?] The earlier you settle the issue, the better it is. The fact was 5-6 months we were out of cricket last year and that also makes it difficult. Longer quarantine and quite a lot of factors. If I have to sum it up, the players have taken up more responsibility this year. If you see for the last 8-10 years, we have not changed players from the squad. We also appreciate the players who don’t get the chance. Try to have faith and when you get an opportunity, you need to be ready for it. Keeping the dressing-room atmosphere healthy is important. We need to give extra credit to the players who are not playing.

CSK vs RCB – Match No 19, IPL 2021 Post Match Presentation and Summary

CSK vs RCB Post Match Summary:

RCB have their first loss of the season, and it is a massive one. They were in this game for a lot of their bowling innings. A proper deflation from Jadeja came in the last over, and the powerplay of the chase is the only place they were still in contention. Once again, it was Jadeja who came to haunt them. The wickets of Maxwell and AB de Villiers, and the run-out of Christian pretty much ended RCB’s resistance. All in quick time. He finished with three wickets, to go with his 62 off 28, 36 of which came in the last over of the innings. CSK go to the top of the table, RCB drop to second.

RCB Captain Virat Kohli on Team Performance:

You have to look at it the right way. It’s come at the right time for us. You have to understand the things that went wrong. I think this is positive feedback for our side. It’s good to get a performance like this out of the way early in the season. We were there most of the moments in the game, but the key ones we lost badly. Jaddu displaying his skills took the game away from us. You can probably say one guy beat us. We will continue to give him responsibility [Harshal] he got both the set batsmen out and plucked all the momentum away. We have to look at this in the right way. Brush it aside and learn from it. We will continue to use guys at 3 because we have Maxi and AB to follow. We will continue to use that depth. We’ll throw in guys there and ask them to change the game for us. [Jadeja] I am very happy to see him perform with the bat, ball and on the field. Always a pleasure to see your premier all-rounder do well with the bat.

Virak Kohli After Today’s Match Defeat

Imran Tahir on Jadeja Perfromance in Todays CSK vs RCB:

I’ve been waiting for the opportunity but the guys have been doing really well. Really grateful to represent CSK again, always a proud moment. I hope I justified my role. I think I just don’t wanna look slow on the field because it’s easy to pick on me, the age I’m going through. I work hard, don’t take things for granted. Really glad I got the run-out for that team. I hope that everyone’s noticed that! (laughs) People think with age you get slow, I was a bit slow earlier, first game and it was hot. But I’m pleased, I’ll try to give my 100% for the team. [Jadeja] I’ve seen him bat in the nets, hours and hours, fielding, bowling. Really good on him.

Imran Tahir on Jadeja’s Super Performance

MS Dhoni on CSK Today’s Performance:

Jaddu is somebody who can change the game on his own. In the last few years we’ve seen significant change in batting and it’s worth it to give him that extra bit of time, extra deliveries. The bowlers have found it difficult to contain left-handers, and that helps as well. You can’t really predict the quantum of victory. There’s no control to how many runs or wickets. When we started we had the conversation about whether to bat or bowl. It’s a good wicket but I felt the spinners had something up their sleeves and I felt that extra few runs Jadeja made helped. 165 would have been par, and once you get 25 extra the opposition has to come a little harder. You cannot make your strategy on the assumption of what dew will do – frankly, some games have been high scoring, some have been low scoring. You have to assess every game and today we made the right decision to bat. We’re not doing anything drastically different from what we did last year. Me and Fleming, we keep saying that we focus on the process. You gain more respect if you keep following your path when you’re under pressure. I think that is something that gave a lot of confidence to the players. Credit to the players. Everybody would have felt the pressure in the first game because it was a lean season.

MS Dhoni

Ravindra Jadeja is the Player of the Match (CSK vs RCB)

Michael Vaughan on Today's Jadeja's Performance
Michael Vaughan on Today’s Jadeja’s Performance

[Has he had a better day?] Don’t think so. (laughs) I’ve been working hard on my fitness, skill, everything. Luckily it paid off. It’s been a tough job being allrounder, you have to do all departments. During training I don’t work on all three, I do skill work one day, training one day, fitness one day. I was just looking to hit it hard. Mahi bhai told me he would bowl somewhere outside off and luckily I connected. Today was not my day [because he didn’t take a catch].
