St Lucia Zouks Preview CPL 2021

Finishing as the runners up in the previous edition of Caribbean Premier League. St Lucia Zouks have a lot of hope from the coming edition of CPL 2021. They lost to the ultimate champions, Trinbago Knight Riders. Despite reaching the finals previous year, they have let go of some premium members from the squad.

New Signings

ST Lucia Zouks have made some debate arising decisions ahead of the Caribbean Premier League 2021. Despite finishing CPL 2020 runners up, St Lucia Zouks let go of 10 layers. They have retained just 7 players from the previous squad. They have released Mohammad Nabi, the Afghan spin bowling all rounder. Nabi was Lucia’s most successful spinner last edition. Najjibulah Zadran, another Afghan player, was left out of the squad. Lucia released Kiwi pacer Scott Kuggeleijn.

A set back they’ll have to face this year is that their ex captain Darren Sammy has withdrawn his name from the Caribbean Premier League 2021 draft as a player. Gratituting his contributions for the franchise, St Lucia have made Darren Sammy the Cricket Cosultant and Brand Ambassador. Other names who couldn’t find themselves in the squad ahead of CPL 2021 are Leniko Boucher, Kavem Hodge, Kimani Melius, Daren Sammy, Chemar Holder, Saad Bin Zafar, Zahir Khan.

St Lucia Zozuks retained 7 players in total. The no-look six hitter, veteran Caribbean Andre Fletcher, all rounder Roston Chase and the guy with his”tick mark” celebration, Kesrick Williams are somr of them. St Lucia retained the big buy Rakheem Cornwall, Obed McCoy, Mark Gayal and Javele Glen.

St Lucia surprised everyone with their signings. They have brought in the Proteas’ former captain, Faf Du Plessis. St Lucia’s think tank has done an amazing job with the signings this year. They have roped in Australian opener/middle order bat Mathew Wade. Wahab Riyaz, the Pakistani pacer will be joining St Lucia as well. Another interesting buy for them is Alzari Joseph.

What to Expect

The St Lucia Zouks have a blistering top order. Faf Du Plessis and Mathew Wade at the top. Rakheem Cornwall, the big guy to follow. Andre Fletcher with his big strokes assisted by Obed McCoy. Wahab Riaz will do an amazing job down the order as well. Keemo Paul is another fine all rounder for them. A good sta

The bowling department of St Lucia Zouks looks pretty intense on the sheets. Alzari Joseph, Kesrick Williams and the extremely talented with experience, Wahab Riaz. Top tier bowlers assisted by Keemo Paul and Obed McCoy will be a tough line-up to face. They lack top quality spinner in their side. Might have to work on that.

Squad

St Lucia Zouks still have to decide the leader of their group but apart from it, the squad for St Lucia Zouks ahead of Caribbean Premier League 2021 is as follows:

Faf du Plessis, Keemo Paul, Wahab Riaz, Matthew Wade, Andre Fletcher, Kesrick Williams, Usman Qadir, Samit Patel, Obed McCoy, Rahkeem Cornwall, Mark Deyal, Roston Chase, Javelle Glen, Keron Cottoy, Jeavor Royal, Kadeem Alleyne, Alzarri Joseph.

Jamaica Tallawahs Preview CPL 2021

Former 2 time champions of CPL, Tallawahs have a new challenge in front of them. New big names in the squad and a new hope all over. Finished 4th last year. Lost in the semi final against Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2020. Captained by Rovman Powell, Jamaica has been a strong team. They will be hoing to bounce back this year in CPL 2021.

New Signings

Jamaica Tallawahs have retained 7 players ahead of CPL 2021 draft. The big guys and premium all rounders, Andre Russel and Carlos Braithwaite have been retained. Jamaica have retained their ex skipper Rovman Powell, Chadwick Walton and premium pacer Fidel Edwards. Fidel Edwards also got a national call back last year. They have also retained left arm spinner Verasammy Permaul and Ryan Persaud.

Jamaica Tallawahs have roped in a lot of new faces. The biggest name would be the veteran Bangladeshi all rounder Shakib Al Hassan. He is going though a rough patch recently but a champion player like him always bounces back. HAider Ali, Pakistan’s rising star is another big name to jon Tallawahs. The Jamaicans have added leg spinner Qais Ahmed to their squad along with Afghan opener Ibrahi Zadran. South African pacer Migael Pretorius has been offered a contract by Jamaic Tallawahs. LKirk McKenzie, Jason Mohammed and local Jamaican Kennar James have earned contracts by Jamaic Tallawahs ahead of CPL 2021.

What to expect

Jamaica Tallawahs have been crowned two times as the winner of CPL. They won the inaugral season of CPL i.e. CPL 2013. They grabbed their second title in the year 2016. Last season was a bit of a flurry for Jamaica. They managed to reach the semi finals but had won only 3 games in the 10group matches.

They have a sompetent squad and many great performers. But all these star players would have to bring their A game forward. Their starting XI would be a dicey one because a lot of players are in line. But some sure starters would be Rovman Powell, their star player, Russel Muscle. Andre Russel will have a huge role in taking this team ahead. Carlos Braithwaite, will have to assist Andre in all departments. Carlos was part of the Sidney Sixers, who won their Big Bash League Title last year. Fidel Edwards will lead the bowling and alongside him would play Haider Ali, the Pakistani star pacer. Jason Mohammed also has an important role in the team. The spin attack will be boosted with the like of Qais Ahmed. Pretorious might get a place in the starting XI. A lot depends upon the think tank ahead of the CPL 2021.

Squad

Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan, Carlos Brathwaite, Rovman Powell, Haider Ali, Chadwick Walton, Fidel Edwards, Qais Ahmed, Jason Mohammad, Migael Pretorius, Kennar Lewis, Ibrahim Zadran, Veerasammy Permaul, Abhijai Mansingh, Joshua James, Kirk McKenzie, Ryan Persaud.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Preview CPL 2021

A terrible history in the CPL during the years, SNP might turn their fate upside down in this edition coming out of a strong auction. They have been poor throughout the years, stuck with the wooden spoon twice, runners up once and qualified for the play-offs once and ended on the last position in the previous draft of CPL. They have retained 7 players ahead of CPL 2021 draft.

New Signings

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots retained 7 players ahead of CPL 2021. Caribbean pacer Sheldon Cottrell, with his “salute” celebration, is one of the retained players. Evin Lewis, their highest run getter previous year, has also been retained. They traded 2 players to other franchises. They signed Dwayne Bravo from Trinbago Knight Riders in return for their wicket keeping batsman Denesh Ramdin. The other name traded to St Kitts from Guyana Amazon Warriors is Sherfane Rutherford. St Kitts have retained Fabian Allen, Jon Russ Jaggesar, Rayad Emrit, Joshua de Silva and Dominic Drakes apart from Evin Lewis and Sheldon Cottrell.

The big names around the auction for St Kitts are Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Wanindu asaranga. Chris Gayle, the Universe boss will be playing for St Kitts and Nevis Patirots in CPL 2021. Chris Gayle opted out of CPL 2020 but has returned this year. He will be playing alongside his mate Dwayne Bravo. DJ Bravo, traded from Trinbago Knight Riders is a big trade for St Kitts. They have brought in Wanindu Hasaranga, the Sri Lankan spin bowling all rounder. Rassie Van Der Dussen, the young South African will be donning St Kitts jersey this year. Another big buy for St Kitts is Anrich Nortje, the speed gun.

What to expect

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have a very strong batting line up now after the auction. Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis at the top will be very explosive. Rassie Van Der Dussen in the middle order will be very handy as he can be explosive and can drop anchor according to the situation. Young talent Joshua De Silva performed well for St Kitts last year as well. Dj Bravo and Wanindu Hasaranga down the order will be a great duo to end the innings on a high.

In the bowling department, St Kitts roping in Anrich Nortje was a huge positive. He is a speed gun and will be a great addition to the team. He can fire 150kmph balls anytime of the match, in the powerplay, middle overs and in the death. Sheldon Cottrell will asist Anrich well. Hasaranga should definetely start for St Kitts in the playing XI. Anrich Nortje, Wanindu Hasaranga, Van Der Dussen should be sure starters in the XI. Fabian Allen is a lovely all rounder. He can hit some biggies and is a decent spinner.

Squad

St Kitts managed to win just a single game previous year in the CPL. They’ll hope to make amends in their planning and team. The squad shows their mindset:

Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Fabian Allen, Rassie Van Der Dussen, Anrich Nortje, Sherfane Rutherford, Sheldon Cottrell, Wanindu Hasaranga, Devon Thomas, Rayad Emrit, Rahamanullah Gurbaz, Colin Archibald, Jon Russ Jaggesar, Dominic Drakes, Joshua da Silva

Barbados Tridents Preview CPL 2021

The two time CPL champions, take on this year with more challanges. Did not qualify for the playoffs last season, but are back with a strong squad. Led by Jason Holder, Barbados Tridents have been rather binary in their performances over the years in the CPL. They have been crowned as winners 2 times but in other editions, they have either finished 5th or got the wooden spoon.

New Signings

The Barbados Tridents released eight players from their squad ahead of the upcoming Caribbean Premier League 2021. One of those eight players was the spin king, Rashid Khan. It was a very brave move to release Rashid Khan. He scalped 11 wickets last season of CPL at an average of 22.64. He was their highest wicket taker, but the Tridents had some other plans. Apart from Rashid Khan, Barbados have let go of veteran New Zealand all rounder Corey Anderson and spinner-allrounder Mitchell Santner. Ashley Nurse, Shamarh Brooks and Jonathan Carter also lost their contracts.

They have retained their skipper, Jason Holder, wicketkeeper batsman Shai Hope and the young gun, Kyle Mayers. Kyle was the highest run getter for Barbados previous season. The Barbados Tridents could win only 3 out of their 10 games in the previous edition of CPL, hence, they might be looking for some fresh faces in this draft.

Their biggest signing this year has to be the ace stalwarth, Mohammad Amir. Amir, is still one of the best new ball bowler across the globe. He will be making his debut this season with the Barbados Tridents. Chris Morris, the most expensive buy in the history of IPL, has been acquired by Barbados ahead of this year’s CPL. Morris had a positive IPL in 2021, he was handy with the bat and picked important wickets within the course of play. Thisara Perera, the Sri Lankan all rounder will also be donning Barbados’ jersey. The caribbean pacer Oshane Thomas, Pakistani Azam Khan and Shafiqulla Ghazari are the other new names in the squad.

What to expect

Barbados Tridents rely a lot on their top order batsmen, Shai Hope and the young star Kyle Mayers. Kyle Mayers was their most successful batsmen in the previous edition of CPL. They don’t have any big names in their batting order but some good sloggers down the order. Chris Morris, Thisara Perera and skipper Jason Holder can be relied upon for hitting some biggies down the order. Their main worry would still be the middle order, to tackle the spinners in the middle overs and anchoring the innings. Jason Holder might come up the order to solve this issue.

Tridents, out of all teams, have one of the best pace attack right now. They were pretty clear with their requirement in the auction. Picking up 2 pace bowling all rounders, they have strengthened the bowling. Mohammad Amir and Oshane Thomas with the new ball. Jason Holder and Chris Morris firing yorkers in the death would prove deadly for every team who play against them. The middle overs still is a worry for them as they don’t have an experienced spinners within them. Letting go of Rashid Khan might prove fatal.

Squad

Chris Morris, Jason Holder(c), Thissara Perera, Mohammad Amir, Johnson Charles, Shai Hope, Oshane Thomas, Kyle Mayers, Hayden Walsh Jr, Azam Khan, Raymon Reifer, Justin Greaves, Ashley Nurse, Shafiquallah Ghafari, Nyeem Young, Joshua Bishop.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Preview CPL 2021

Guyana Amazon Warriors faced a shameful loss last season in the second semi final against St Lucia Zouks. They succumbed to a terrific bowling performance by St Lucia Zouks and managed to score a bare 55 runs in 13 overs. But as they say, champions rise from the ashes. This is what Guyana would be looking forward to. Putting their demons behind, they went into the auction of this year’s draft of CPL with a lot of hope.

New Signings

The most unlucky team in the past, starts the 2021 draft with a new hope. Reaching their 6th final and overcoming their demons will be the aim. To make it happen, they have roped in some experience and some young guns. The talking point ahead of their signings would be the decision to release their CPL 2020 captain, Chris Green. He performed well enough to be retained atleast. Chris took 9 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 23.67. Some flaws in the captaincy might be the reason for releasing the Aussie spinner.

Guyana needs to appoint a new captain for 2021 draft. They have roped in Shoaib Malik and Mohammed Hafeez, cosidering their experience and stability. Guyana can go for either of them if they want experience to lead their unit. But, if they need a Caribbean player leading from the front, they have Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran. Hetmyer led the U-19 team of West Indies to victory in U-19 CWC, 2016.

GAW have also brought in the Afghan wrist-spinner Waqar Salamkheil. Guyana retained 11 payers from the previous edition and hence, did not have enough vacant slots to shake hands with new faces for the upcoming CPL.

What to Expect

Guyana Amazon Warriors will be heading into the Caribbean Premier League, 2021 with a lot of big names. They have a settled batting unit comprising of anchors, strikers, experience and sloggers. Brandon King, Mohammed Hafeez at the top. Shoaib Malik as the anchor, Shimron Hetmyer to take care of the middle overs. Hetmyer and Pooran are both amazing players of spin. They can combat spin in the middle overs and can go bonkers at death. Hetmyer and Pooran scored 267 and 245 runs each respectively in the last edition.

NI

The leg spin duo of Imran Tahir and newly signed Waqar Salamkheil can create a lot of pressure on the batsmen in the middle overs. Imran Tahir, the veteran South African, is always at top of his game. He scalped 15 wickets last season at an average of 15.93

Guyana still have to take a look at their pace battery. They do not have any big names in that department. It is a difficult call to take of who plays and who does not. If they cure their pace problems, they’ll be top contenders for the upcoming season.

Squad

Let’s take a look at Guyana Amazon Warrior’s squad for this year:

Nicholas Pooran, Shoaib Malik, Imran Tahir, Shimron Hetmyer, Mohammad Hafeez, Brandon King, Naveen ul Haq, Romario Shepherd, Waqar Salamkheil, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Odean Smith, Niall Smith, Gudakesh Motie, Anthony Bramble, Kevin Sinclair, Ashmead Nedd.

Trinbago Knight Riders Preview CPL 2021

Trinbago Knight riders, the defending champions of Caribbean Premier League are well set to start the 2021 draft of CPL with another strong squad. Trinbago have retained most of their players but we will get to see some new faces in in their camp in the upcoming CPL edition commencing August 28,2021.

New Signings

Trinbago Knight Riders have roped in some big names ahead of the upcoming CPL edition. The biggest talking point of this auction for TKR would trading Dwayne Bravo to St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots for Denesh Ramdin. Dwayne Bravo won the player of the match award in the 13th match of previous edition against St Lucia Zouks. He has an average season apart from that and hasn’t been in a fine touch recently. He has had some injury scares as well recently. But a player of his calibre and exerience can not be ignored based on recency biasness. Denesh Ramdin, the wicketkeeper is undoubtedly an amazing trade for TKR.

They’ve roped in Ravi Rampaul, a West Indian pacer. In the spin department where they already have Sunil Narine and Khary Pierre, they decided to expand this and have brought in the Nepalese star, Sandeep Lamichhane. Isuru Udana and Sikandar Raza toughen the All-rounders department.

What to expect

Trinbago Knight Riders will go into this season as the defending champions. They won all of their the group stage fixtures, the semi final and the final. They outclassed every team last year and have been a champion side with 4 trophies sitting in their cabinet.

Lendl Simmons, highest run getter last year is in a terrific form. Their skipper, Kieron Pollard is always the guy to rely in. Kieron Pollard hit 6 sixes in an over against Sri Lanka in a T20 international and was in an amazing form in Vivo IPL 2021. Sunil Narine, thier trump card, can spin a web around the batsmen and demolish them. Sandeep Lamichhane will be the perfect man to support Sunil Narine. Darren Bravo and Colin Munrro ensure stability and firepower both.

Trinbago Knight Riders are favourites for the upcoming season of Caribbean Premiere League .

Squad

Kieron Pollard(c), Ravi Rampaul, Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Sandeep Lamichhane, Darren Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Khary Pierre, Isuru Udana, Sikandar Raza, Anderson Phillip, Denesh Ramdin, Tion Webster, Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales, Leonardo Julian, Ali Khan.
