Barcelona is now surely out of the title race in La Liga after a draw against Levante. Barca had a chance to go to the top of the table but they could not take that opportunity. Barcelona got two goals lead in the first half itself and a comfortable position after the first half. In the second half, Blaugrana conceded three times. There is also a question on coach Ronald Koeman. It is one of the worst coaching performances which cost Barca so badly. Barca kept their deserving two points on the field and it is pretty much sure that Barca will not win the league.
Barcelona vs Levante FIRST HALF
Barça started the match with a great display of gameplay. Within the first five minutes for Barca, two big chances are created by the combination of Frenkie De Jong and Pedri. But in both cases, Pedri missed two easy chances. Barca can get two goals lead in the first five minutes. It also cost Barcelona very badly.
As the game was proceeding it became very slow. Both the teams could not find the way of the net. Levante was successful to park the bus at that time. They mostly played counter-attacking football. After some time Barca got spaces as Levante was trying to break Barca’s defense and in counter, Barca struggled them. In both, the wings Barcelona had Jordi Alba and Ousmane Dembele. They are created trouble for Levante with their speedy runs. It helped Barca to score 2 goals in the first half. Both assists came from Jordi and Dembele.
In the first goal, we saw nice build-up gameplay by Barcelona. On the left side, Jordi Alba put a cross in the box which was deflected by the Levante defender. The ball went straight to Lionel Messi and Messi scored the goal in a running half volley, a beautiful goal to watch. Barca got the lead by their captain. Just 10 minutes later Messi released the ball to Dembele and Dembele went straight to the box. He put a low cross to Pedi and it is an easy tap-in for him. Pedri gave Barca two goals lead.
After the first half, Barcelona was looking strong to win the game and get three points. It helped Barca to go to the top position of the league table.
Barcelona vs Levante SECOND HALF
Ronald Koeman made a big mistake when he decided to take off Ronald Araujo. He played a beautiful first half. Koeman substituted him with serge Roberto in the center back position without changing the formation. As a central back, Roberto is not suitable enough. He is mainly a right-back, right-wing player. This substitution was awful and cost Barcelona so badly. In the first 15 minutes of the second half, Levante started a storm of attacking. That time in every 30 seconds it seems like a big chance for them. Levante equalized their 2 goals margin within 15 minutes at the start of the second half.
Gonzalo Melero and AJ Morales scored for Levante to tie the game with 30 minutes left to play.
Barca managed to reply quickly as Dembele scored the third goal in 63 minutes. It gave Barca the lead again.
That time it seemed that Barca regaining control again as they kept possession. But that time another strange substitution came. Koeman brought on Oscar Mingueza in place of Pedri and Made Roberto as a midfielder. Barca again lost control of the game. It is a desperate attempt by Koeman to correct his first mistake.
After that Sergino Dest came on. He could not track the run by Tono and he crossed the ball. Sergio Leon scored a very nice equalizer. Then Koeman picked up Roberto and put Riqui Puig with no time in hand to make an impact in the game. Roberto played 40 minutes of the disgraceful game.
The final whistle came to end another awful night for Barça, who managed to give away a two-goal lead in just 15 minutes and defended like toddlers in the second half. And they were coached by a toddler as well. What a disaster.
